A recent case study by ukbathroomguru.com

Introduction

In many houses in the UK there is often a separate toilet & bathroom at the top of the stairs on the 1st floor – this layout is particularly common in semi detached properties.

Many times the two rooms are kept separate, with the toilet in one room and the basin and shower or bath in the other room.

Knocking the two rooms into one large family bathroom has a number of advantages and often suits the way people live today.

Case study

plan before & after

This project involved removing the dividing wall between the two rooms and making a new entryway into the space.

The design featured a large, 1400×800 shower enclosure that took up the entire old WC room.

knocking through a WC & bathroom

The wall was knocked down and the old suite and tiles were removed on the 1st day – this is the messy, dusty bit!

During the following 2 weeks the bathroom was completed.

installing a bath correctly

A tiled in bath was fitted into a supporting framework

new doorway in old hall

The new doorway was made – this involved joinery and plastering trades.

tanking and tiling a shower enclosure

The shower tray was fitted by the plumber and the walls tanked & tiled by the tiler.

old vs new bathroom layout

Here you can see where the old wall was in the new scheme.

Tiled in bath

The bath was completed with a tiled in bath panel

Basin vanity unit

A basin vanity unit provided storage space, and an attractive LED mirror unit with an integrated light and shaver point for electric toothbrushes etc was fitted above.

shower enclosure in old WC

A very high quality shower enclosure was fitted with a twin head thermostatic mixer shower, which was chosen to compliment the customers current heating system.
